Grounded in the principles of Chinese medicine that have been in use for 5,000 years, integrative medical acupuncture uses extremely fine needles placed at acupoints along the body’s energy meridian pathways to stimulate the movement of healing life force energy that the ancient Chinese called Qi.

A blockage along any of the twelve main meridians that prevents energy from flowing freely often develops into a disease process in that area of the body. While there are over 1,000 acupoints along the meridians, only 6-12 needles will be used in the average 30-minute session. The number of needles used does not correspond with the intensity of the treatment but the number of acupoints that need to be stimulated in relation to the patient’s specific condition. Aside from a slight prick at the moment the needles are inserted, the procedure is painless.

The dramatic effects achieved with integrative medical acupuncture have been attributed to triggering the nervous system to signal the brain to release neurotransmitters that activate the body’s self-healing mechanism. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has officially endorsed integrative medical acupuncture for a wide range of conditions including post-operative pain, tennis elbow and carpal tunnel syndrome. It has also shown to be highly effective in treating autoimmune disease, depression, fibromyalgia, migraines, PMS, irritable bowel syndrome, sciatica, sinusitis, circulation problems, arthritis, digestive disorders and respiratory disorders among others.
