The Value of Curiosity in the Pursuit of Healing

Solving the riddle of dis-ease by properly evaluating ourselves

Our Beloved Family:

When faced with a physical challenge, the process of healing requires many things of us. In addition to taking the appropriate physical action by seeking medical attention, we’re also called to explore the underlying psycho-spiritual issues that affect us on a cellular and energetic level. It is here where we need to focus the majority of our attention, evaluating past and present emotional issues and relationships in an effort to discover the deeper root of the physical manifestation we call illness. It’s natural to be concerned about our physical bodies when we’re sick, but if we allow our attention to become consumed by what’s happening on the physical plane, we won’t be able to direct our awareness inward toward deeper levels of consciousness where the answer to healing exists. No problem was ever solved by working from the same level of consciousness that created it.

Healing also requires diligence, perseverance, courage, surrender and a lot of other things from us, but there’s one quality that’s primary to all the rest. Without it, there is no return to health. Of all the things we must be in order to manifest healing, we must first be curious. This is not to imply that you should be combing through medical research online in an effort to find the magic bullet for your particular condition. Too often, this kind of behavior isn’t based in curiosity, but driven by anxiety and desperation. When we’re sending anxious and desperate energy out into the universe, it often returns to us other situations to continue being anxious and depressed about.

There are no coincidences in life. Everything is connected and it’s quite obvious that in order to manifest a cure for your dis-ease, you must first possess a healthy curiosity for self-knowledge.

To be curious, with regard to healing, means to have a genuine desire to use the experience of illness to learn more about yourself. Children and animals have a curious part of their nature that is free-spirited, light and completely detached from whatever answers their explorations reveal. It’s just this sort of innocence and openness we must possess as we look inward to investigate, without judgment, the psycho-spiritual unresolved issues that have been the precursors of dis-ease in our bodies. By all means, follow the physical protocol your physician has prescribed for you, but beyond that, the bulk of your work is internal. As you take on this internal investigation, approach it as a mystery. Put your past and present relationships, regrets, grudges, disappointments and assumptions all under the magnifying glass. You’ll be surprised what you find. To be truly inquisitive and an expert investigator means to take your time, never hurrying or letting emotions overwhelm you, so you can properly evaluate all the evidence and solve the riddle of your dis-ease. The greatest detectives of all time like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes or Agatha Christie’s Ms. Jane Marple and Hercule Poirot always solved their mysteries because they approached each one, not with a sense of panic, but with a calm and collected sense of curiosity.

The dictionary defines curious as, eager to know. It comes from the Latin, curiosus and is “akin to cura, see cure”. Isn’t it amazing that the words curious and cure share a similar etymology and root source? It’s also interesting to note that online aggregate tabulators can measure the use of specific words in written and recorded language over time. Since 1800, the usage of both curiosity and cure in the English language has dropped by nearly 75%. Is it any wonder why our world has become so cynical lacking innocent curiosity and of course, sick?

There are no coincidences in life. Everything is connected and it’s quite obvious that in order to manifest a cure for your dis-ease, you must first possess a healthy curiosity for self-knowledge. Your eagerness to know shouldn’t stem from your rush to find a cure, but from a genuine desire to evolve emotionally and spiritually, out of which healing will manifest as a natural response.
